Munguia Fails Drug Test After Surace Fight

Mexican fighter Jaime Munguia, who suffered a stoppage loss to Frenchman Bruno Surace in December 2024 and avenged it with a decision win in spring 2025 — scores: 117–111, 116–112, 117–111 — has tested positive for a banned substance.

VADA’s A-sample, collected on May 4 following Munguia’s victory in the rematch, returned an adverse analytical finding indicating exogenous testosterone metabolites. Munguia now has 10 days to request the testing of his B-sample.

If the B-sample confirms the result, Munguia faces a potential suspension from boxing, and the bout could be ruled a No Contest.

The loss in the rematch was the first defeat of Surace’s career. He has already submitted a formal request for the result to be overturned.
