After her unanimous decision win over Sandy Ryan on October 30 in Montreal, Canada, 35-year-old American Mikaela Mayer stated that she is ready to fight for undisputed status. To do that, she would need to face 31-year-old Briton Lauren Price.
“They can give me the opportunity to step in and fight Lauren Price for the undisputed title, and then I can come back and defend one of the three belts.
We had already planned this fight. It was supposed to happen in July in Vegas, and as I understand it, BOXXER made a deal for Lauren Price without her involvement. And when she was informed about the terms — which we had already fully agreed upon: the money, everything — she said: ‘No, I’m not doing that.’ I think that’s her right.
That was the last date available for us to stage the fight between the two networks, so there simply wasn’t a budget. There wasn’t enough money to pay us what we deserved, and we had to put the deal on hold. I hope they’ve now sorted out their situation with their broadcast network. We hope Top Rank will soon finalize theirs, and we can secure a budget and get what we deserve for this fight,” Mayer said.
Mikaela Mayer (22-2, 5 KO) currently holds the WBC, WBO and WBA titles at super welterweight. Her last defeat came three fights ago – against Natasha Jonas.
Lauren Price (9-0, 2 KO) won her previous bout by unanimous decision, also against Natasha Jonas.
