Mauricio Sulaiman: “We’re waiting for details of Usyk’s upcoming fight”

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman shared his thoughts on a potential fight between unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who holds the WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO titles, and former world champion Deontay Wilder.

“Absolutely we are hoping to see him back in the ring. He requested to the WBC to make a voluntary defence which was granted and we're waiting for the details of his upcoming fight.

Deontay Wilder was champion for five years of the WBC, he is a tremendous force, he has great punching power. He is ranked by the WBC, so absolutely he is eligible and welcome to fight Usyk in a voluntary title defence,” Sulaiman said.

Earlier, Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) expressed his desire for his next fight to be against Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs). The date and venue of a possible bout have yet to be announced.
