Julio César Chávez Jr. Deported to Mexico

Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. has been deported from the United States to Mexico, where he is wanted for alleged ties to a cartel. In the U.S., Chávez was arrested for overstaying his visa and providing false information on his green card application, before being deported.

According to the Associated Press, Chávez was placed in a prison outside the city of Hermosillo, in the northern state of Sonora.

The deportation was also confirmed by Mexico’s President:

He was deported. I don’t know if it was yesterday or this morning, but we were informed that he is arriving in Mexico,” said Claudia Sheinbaum.

Chávez is accused of possible involvement in arms and drug trafficking, as well as alleged ties to the Sinaloa cartel.
