Josh Taylor Announces Retirement

Former undisputed super‑lightweight champion Josh Taylor has officially hung up the gloves at 34.

Taylor reached the decision after medical consultations revealed that chronic eye issues put his sight at serious risk.

“End of an era. I’ve lived my dream for the past ten years and conquered my Everest.

Thank you all for the support on this mad roller‑coaster ride.

Boxing is all I’ve ever known, but now let’s see what life offers on the other side of the ropes,” wrote Taylor.

Josh Taylor (19‑3, 13 KOs) became undisputed on 22 May 2021 by defeating José Ramírez, and successfully defended the crown against Jack Catterall on 26 February 2022. He then suffered three straight losses — to Teófimo López, in a rematch with Catterall, and to Ekow Essuman in May 2025.
