trueSubriel Matias, Matchroom BoxMatchroom Boxing chief Eddie Hearn shared his thoughts on Subriel Matias’ doping test. As a reminder, ostarine was previously found in the Puerto Rican’s sample. After a positive test for a similar substance, Ryan Garcia was suspended for a year.
Later, the New York State Athletic Commission stated that the ostarine level in Matias’ sample was “below the established threshold.” NYSAC considers ostarine abnormal at levels above 0.1 ng/ml — Subriel’s figure came in below that.
Hearn compared how such tests are treated under VADA and WADA. It was VADA that conducted Matias’ testing
“As I understand it, the threshold for the New York State Athletic Commission is 0.1, while for WADA the threshold is just zero, because they believe there can’t be any ostarine in your system at all. It’s a synthetic substance,” said Eddie.
The official also addressed whether Matias vs Smith can go ahead
“If the commission says the level is below the established threshold, then I think it’s very likely the fight can happen. After that, it becomes a matter for the WBC and the commission.
Fortunately, I’m not the promoter of that show, but in situations like this, the commission decides everything. A promoter can’t cancel a fight on their own. So the decision remains with the New York State Athletic Commission,” he said.
Dalton Smith vs Subriel Matias for the WBC Junior Welterweight title is scheduled for January 10 in the United States.
