Hearn on How Joshua Ended Up with Usyk: “He Never Came Back”

18 Dec

The head of the promotional company Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn, shared exactly how he found out that his fighter, Anthony Joshua, had ended up in the training camp of three-time undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk.

“I was in Dubai with AJ, and he said to me: ‘What do you think about me training with Usyk? You know, I’d like to give it a try.’ And I said: ‘Look, if you have the time, what’s the harm in that?’ He said: ‘I’ll go and train there for two weeks.’ He never came back.

He was there for, I don’t know, eight, nine weeks, something like that. So he trained harder than ever before. These guys are warlike. That’s why Oleksandr Usyk is such a fighter, and in such shape, with such stamina,” said Hearn.

Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs) will have his next fight on December 19 in Miami, USA. His opponent will be Jake Paul. Usyk’s team, including trainer Iegor Golub, prepared the Briton for this bout.
