Eddie Hearn: “Haney Has Been Poisoned by the Sport and by Money”

Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn shared his thoughts on former world champion Devin Haney ahead of his fight against WBO welterweight titleholder Brian Norman.

“No disrespect to Devin. But right now, he’s not chasing greatness the way he was at the start of his journey. And that’s because he’s been poisoned by the sport and poisoned by money. It happens to everyone — and it’s not Devin’s fault.

After the Ryan Garcia fight, he lost some of the love for boxing as a game. Not the sport — the game. What happened to him after that fight was brutal.

I think he just thought: ‘You know what? F*** all this — just pay me.’ This fight has everything: big money and the chance to become a three-weight world champion. But it’s a very risky fight. I still expect Devin to win. But he’s definitely been affected.

The fight between Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) and Brian Norman (28-0, 22 KOs) will take place November 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
