Last week, police in Miami Gardens, Florida, declared WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis wanted on charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend. Since then, several reports have surfaced regarding Davis's alleged detention, but the plaintiff's lawyer has confirmed that these are untrue.
Richard Wolf, the attorney for the woman who previously filed a lawsuit against Davis for alleged abusive conduct, provided an update to BoxingScene:
“We are attempting to get service of process on Davis and are confident we will get service once Mr. Davis is arrested.
Where is he? I have no idea. We have sent our process server to his home six times with no luck. We have filed a motion to allow for alternative service — when someone is evading service — by publication. The matter is set for a hearing,” Wolf stated.
As a reminder, Gervonta Davis has been moved to the status of "champion in recess" until the case is resolved. This was previously announced by WBA President Gilberto Mendoza.
