Frazer Clarke: “If Wardley could become champion, why can’t I?”

British boxer Frazer Clarke shared his thoughts on his former opponent, WBO Heavyweight world champion Fabio Wardley.

If Fabio could do it (become world champion — ed.) — he’s got two hands and two legs like I do, he works just as hard, he’s a fighter just like me — why can’t I? Why can’t everyone else? That’s the message for everyone in our sport: keep grinding, don’t stop. If you work hard enough and you get a bit of luck — your chance will come.

I don’t feel anger toward Fabio, only congratulations. The path he’s taken — from where he started to where he is now — it’s an incredible story. He inspires me, and I’ll be telling Fabio’s story to a lot of other people. So respect — absolutely.

A third fight with Wardley? Honestly, he’ll be looking for a bigger name and a bigger payday. But I never say ‘never.’ Have a few more fights, put yourself in a good position, and never say ‘never.’ But going from a potential fight with Oleksandr Usyk to a fight with Frazer Clarke financially is probably not what he has in his plans right now. But this sport is crazy — everything changes, and sometimes things unfold in very unexpected ways,” said Clarke.

Clarke (9-1-1, 7 KOs) and Wardley (20-0-1, 19 KOs) met twice in 2024: the first fight ended in a draw, and in the second Wardley knocked Clarke out in the first round. After that, Frazer needed an oxygen mask and later underwent surgery due to a cheekbone injury.

On November 29, Clarke will fight Jamie Tshikeva in Derby, United Kingdom.
