Eddie Hearn Speaks on Ennis vs. Crawford

Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing and promoter of Jaron Ennis, shared his thoughts on a potential fight between his fighter and WBA Super Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford.

Ennis is fighting a final eliminator for the WBA title, which makes us the mandatory challenger for Terence Crawford. Of course, it’s possible he may never return to 154, but he hasn’t vacated his title yet.

If I were Terence Crawford, I’d already give up the belt. Because when we become mandatory, we’ll push for that fight, and he’ll have to vacate once Boots becomes the challenger. That won’t look good.

Will Crawford come back to 154? Probably not, but I don’t see why not. He’s not a Super Middleweight. He’s not a Middleweight either. You saw the fight against Madrimov — maybe he’s not even big enough at Super Welterweight. And a Crawford–Boots fight would be simply incredible,” said Hearn.

On October 11, Jaron Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) will debut at Super Welterweight in a WBA eliminator against Wisma Lima.

On September 13, Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) will jump two weight classes to face undisputed Super Middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. Ennis is currently training in Canelo’s camp as part of preparations for the Crawford bout.
