Eddie Hearn, head of Matchroom Boxing and promoter of Anthony Joshua, reacted to the words of Jake Paul’s mother. The day before, Pam Stepnick said she wanted to punch Hearn in the face.
“I can’t believe it. I couldn’t have been more complimentary toward Jake Paul. Yes, I might have a smug face. I did, by the way, shake his dad’s hand in the ring and said, ‘Well done.’ I didn’t see his mum, otherwise I would have said hello to her as well. But it is what it is.
Logan was obviously winding AJ up hard all fight long. It wasn’t very sporting, but apparently I looked smug when AJ won. In every interview I’ve said and will repeat: full respect to Jake Paul. What he’s done deserves respect. So I would like to apologize to Mrs. Paul – I didn’t mean to look smug.
And I couldn’t really have been smug, because it didn’t go the way I expected. I thought we’d just get him out of there in a few rounds. There’s nothing to be proud of in that sense. But we won, and I wish him all the very best,” Hearn said.
On 19 December, Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) defeated Jake Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) by sixth-round knockout, breaking the American’s jaw in two places.
