Dubois’ Former Trainer Evaluated Joshua’s New Coaching Team

The former trainer of British heavyweight Daniel Dubois, Don Charles, shared his thoughts on Anthony Joshua’s performance with his new coaching staff. Joshua prepared for Jake Paul with Oleksandr Usyk’s team, while Charles was the one who trained Dubois when he famously knocked out Anthony.

“Considering the defeat he suffered from Daniel—and that was a terrible knockout loss—I have to acknowledge how he came back. To me, he looked good.

I know everyone will criticize him. Essentially, he did what he had to do. He did a professional job. He went out there and found the rhythm. It took a few rounds—which is exactly what he should have done.

If you haven't been in the ring, unfortunately, you won't understand exactly what needs to be done. If he had gone out there recklessly, trying to impress everyone by knocking out Jake Paul immediately... you know, it’s not the easiest thing. So he took his time, picked him apart, systematically broke him down. It was only a matter of time, and when that time came, he finished the job.

I don’t think new trainers can change everything in one camp. AJ has already had quite a few trainers. So he has accumulated many different styles, which can sometimes cause confusion.

As for the shots he took—it’s a fight, right? In a fight between two men, you swing your arms—something is going to land. Even if it’s a street fight between you and me,” Charles said.

Joshua knocked out Paul in the 6th round of the showdown. Prior to the finish, Jake had been knocked down twice.
