41-year-old British heavyweight Derek Chisora has opened up on his decision to face countryman Dillian Whyte rather than American contender Jarrell Miller for what he says will be the final fight of his career.
– I didn’t want to fight Miller because this is my last fight. I wanted to face Dillian again, you know? This is my final fight, and it’s very emotional for me, Chisora said.
– Is that the main reason? the reporter asked.
– No. I was negotiating with him, bro. It’s all good, Chisora replied.
– He wants revenge for the loss – I respect that, Miller chimed in.
– I wasn’t looking for a hard fight, bro. That would’ve been a very tough fight. I didn’t want that, Derek joked.
– Do you think that fight would have been tougher than the upcoming one? the journalist pressed.
– No, I’m joking, no-no. I just wanted to fight Dillian again because I think that’s what the British public wants, Chisora concluded.
Earlier, promoter Frank Warren confirmed that Chisora (36-13, 23 KOs) had initially been in talks to face Miller (26-1-2, 22 KOs) on December 13 but ultimately opted out. Warren has since announced that a trilogy bout with Dillian Whyte (31-4, 21 KOs) has been agreed in principle.
