Founder and head of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya reported that the deadline he set for Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn regarding the organization of the duel between his client, interim WBC Super Welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz, against interim WBA titleholder in the same division Jaron Ennis, has already expired.
De La Hoya noted that he has focused on organizing a different fight for Ortiz.
“Eddie did not call me, so I am moving on,” stated the promoter.
According to BoxingScene information, now Ortiz’s representatives plan to contact the team of WBC Super Welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) for the possible organization of a duel.
Previously De La Hoya in his social networks addressed Hearn with a proposal to split the purse for the fight between Vergil Ortiz (24-0, 22 KOs) and Jaron Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) in a ratio of 60 to 40 in favor of Vergil, as well as to allocate an additional 5% bonus for the winner from the total payout amount.
In response, Hearn stated that the parties had already agreed on a 50-50 split and a 5% bonus to the winner, however, Ortiz did not sign this agreement, unlike Ennis.
