Daniel Dubois Parts Ways with Don Charles

Former world champion Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) has decided to end his cooperation with trainer Don Charles following his defeat to Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs), journalist Dec Warrington reports.

Dubois’ new trainer will be Tony Sims, the former coach of Anthony Joshua.

“Daniel Dubois and Don Charles — the trainer who guided him to three of his biggest wins — have split after defeat to a man increasingly being called the greatest of all time. He’s now linked up with Tony Sims, who once led Anthony Joshua to his first world title. Dubois is never boring,” Warrington wrote.

Dubois and Charles began working together ahead of the Briton’s first fight with Usyk in 2023. Despite that defeat, it was under Charles’ guidance that Dubois produced his best boxing — first stopping Jarrell Miller, then sensationally knocking out Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua.

However, in the rematch, Usyk scored an even more emphatic victory — a fifth-round knockout that underlined the gulf in class between the two fighters.

Dubois split with Don Charles just days after assistant coach Kieran Farrell announced his departure from the team, while Sam Jones was unveiled as Dubois’ new manager. Jones, who also works with Jack Catterall and Johnny Fisher, stated that Dubois could return as early as December — which would mark his first fight under Sims.
