In Nigeria, a heavyweight bout (over 90.7 kg) took place between local fighters 52-year-old Ike Ibeabuchi (21-1, 16 KOs) and 45-year-old Kabiru Towolawi (27-16, 22 KOs).
The fight went the full 12-round distance and ended with Towolawi winning by unanimous decision. The judges’ scores were 117–111, 115–114 and 115–113 in favor of Towolawi.
This is the first loss of Ibeabuchi’s career. Back in 1999, at the peak of his career, Ike was sent to prison after being accused of rape and assaulting a hotel worker.
In August, the Nigerian returned to the ring after a 25-year layoff and defeated Idris Afinni. After that fight, Ibeabuchi called out Oleksandr Usyk.
