Former heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder has confirmed he is parting ways with long-time trainer Malik Scott:
“We’re brothers—and always will be. We talk all the time, and there’s nothing bad between us. Sometimes things change, and this is one of those times.”
Scott echoed the news:
“I’ve always wanted only the best for Deontay. He’s done things that sparked huge interest in boxing, and he needs to light that fire again. He called to say a different team will be in the corner this time. We thanked each other for everything. He’s in good hands—I know that for sure.”
Scott first joined Wilder’s camp in 2014—after Wilder had knocked him out—and became head trainer in 2021 for the trilogy fight with Tyson Fury, which Wilder lost.
Wilder has dropped four of his last five bouts. His next appearance comes in the early hours of 28 June against Tyrell Herndon, where a new team will work his corner. A detailed analytical preview and full stats are available via the matchup link.
