On May 24 in Osaka, Japan, IBF minimumweight champion, 28-year-old Filipino Pedro Taduran (18-4-1, 13 KOs), faced off against Ginjiro Shigeoka (11-2, 9 KOs).
The rematch ended in a split decision win for Taduran, with the judges scoring the bout 118–110 and 115–113 in his favor, while one judge gave it 115–113 to Shigeoka.
This marked the second clash between the two fighters — and it ended dramatically, as Shigeoka had to be carried out of the ring on a stretcher.
