Suarez Files Appeal Over Navarrete Fight Result

Filipino fighter Charly Suarez (18-1, 10 KOs) has officially filed an appeal regarding the outcome of his fight against WBO super featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete (40-2-1, 32 KOs), according to BoxingScene.

Suarez submitted the appeal to the California State Athletic Commission, which will review the case on June 2.

The bout, which took place in the early hours of May 11, was stopped in the seventh round after Navarrete sustained a cut above his left eye. Initially, the injury was ruled the result of an accidental clash of heads. After the seventh, a ringside doctor advised the referee to halt the fight. The scores after seven completed rounds were: 78-75 and two cards of 77-76, all in favor of Navarrete — resulting in a technical decision win (TD-U 8).

However, later footage surfaced suggesting that the cut may have come from a clean punch landed by Suarez. As a result, his team is requesting either a technical knockout victory or that the bout be declared a no contest.

WBO President Gustavo Olivieri stated that a decision regarding a possible rematch will be made only after the commission issues its final ruling.
