WBC Lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (23-0, 11 KO) has responded to comments from Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority chairman Turki Alalshikh, who said he doesn’t want to see “Tom and Jerry-style” bouts.
“I think remarks like that are out of line toward any boxer. We’re all fighters who train for months, work hard, and give everything we’ve got.
Movement and footwork are part of boxing. I’ve got nothing against guys who move around the ring—legends like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard were always on their toes.
I reckon they’d be disappointed to hear that crap. So I just don’t agree,” said Shakur.
Stevenson is set to defend his title on 12 July against William Zepeda.
