Morrell Could Meet a Top British Opponent — Eddie Hearn

Head of Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn lifted the lid on possible showdowns for David Morrell and Subriel Matías, both of whom may share the ring with British rivals.

“We’re in talks with PBC about Callum Smith vs. David Morrell, and likewise about Subriel Matías vs. Dalton Smith. We’re just ironing out the final details.

Callum Smith is willing to throw down with David Morrell. Naturally he’d prefer it to be for a full world title rather than an interim belt, but it’s still a terrific fight.

Right now we’re negotiating with PBC and Turki Alalshikh to lock in Smith-Morrell, and to rubber-stamp Matías-Smith as soon as possible,” Hearn said.

Callum Smith is the WBO interim light-heavyweight champion. The full WBO title is held by Dmitry Bivol, who is expected to complete a trilogy with Artur Beterbiev in his next bout.
