WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara has offered his blueprint for how Terence Crawford can dethrone Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez in their bid for the undisputed super-middleweight crown.
“It’s an intriguing fight—an absolute 50–50. Canelo is very strong right now, and I’m curious to see how Crawford handles that power, especially in the early rounds, and what comes of it.
I remember facing Canelo fourteen years ago — well, eleven years ago in 2014, to be exact. I moved a lot that night. As long as Crawford keeps circling, refuses to let Canelo pound away at his arms and forearms, he’ll have a very good chance to win,” Lara told Fighthype.
Saúl Álvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) and Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) meet on 13 September in Las Vegas. For the American it’s a shot at becoming a three-time undisputed champion, but it also requires a two-division leap up the scales.
