“After July 19”: Lapin Comments on a Potential Usyk vs. Jake Paul MMA Fight

Serhii Lapin, director of the team behind WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs), shared his thoughts on a possible MMA bout against influencer and heavyweight boxer Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs).

A fight with Jake Paul would be a spectacular show. Just imagine the headline: the undisputed boxing world champion enters the cage to face a guy who’s beaten several MMA fighters in a boxing ring. That’s a showdown fans would absolutely want to see.

We’d have to completely restructure our training camp — bring in wrestling and kickboxing experts to master the techniques needed for the cage. But we’ve seen the response from Jake Paul’s team — they like the idea.

Usyk said: ‘Why not? It’s cool — I love challenges.’ He even remembered how he used to train in wrestling and hand-to-hand combat as a kid. It would be a beautiful fight in the cage.

But right now, our main focus is the undisputed championship fight on July 19 in London. After that, we’ll return to discussions with Jake Paul’s team,” — said Lapin in an interview with Norske Bettingsider.

Earlier, Oleksandr Usyk reshared a post teasing a potential MMA clash with Jake Paul, while Paul launched a fan poll — nearly 80% voted in favor.
