George Groves Names the Only Opponent for Tyson Fury

Former world champion and current boxing analyst George Groves shared his thoughts on a potential British showdown between Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs). According to Groves, there’s only one logical step for both fighters.

“If I were either of them, I’d just get in the ring with each other — simple as that. No need to mess around with other fights. Sure, there’s big money out there, but who wants to throw crazy amounts at anything else besides this head-to-head?

Just save the energy, make the fight happen without any more wear and tear or risk. Things can go wrong in training camp or even on fight night. Both of them have already lost. Fury hasn’t looked great in a long time. Just let them fight each other.

There has to be a number that works for both. Maybe they’re just waiting for that figure. And you don’t have to announce it now if it’s happening in October. But this fight is definitely happening. Joshua had surgery, Fury is already back running. I’m almost certain they’ll fight in September or October — and the rematch will come next year,” said Groves.

In 2024, Tyson Fury suffered two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, after which he announced his retirement from boxing.

Anthony Joshua last fought in September against Daniel Dubois, losing by knockout in the fifth round. In May, he underwent elbow surgery. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, Joshua is expected to return in the fall.
