Ryan Garcia Attacks De La Hoya: “I Don’t Want to Be Part of a Team Like This”

American welterweight Ryan Garcia has openly voiced his dissatisfaction with Golden Boy Promotions.

According to Garcia, his relationship with Oscar De La Hoya has long since soured, and every disagreement only makes things worse. He accuses the promoter of belittling him, withholding support, and trying to derail his career.

I’ve always tried to mend fences and be the bigger man. I’ve said before that families fight, but you leave that stuff behind.

It’s really hard to deal with a promoter who’s fixated on himself. He loves the spotlight, even at his age. He never manages healthy relationships with fighters — especially the ones who become stars.

You saw what happened with him and Saúl Álvarez. He sows discord and can’t build proper bonds. He drags other people’s business into the open and acts in ways a promoter shouldn’t. He’s constantly coming at me. Constant conflicts. I don’t care about the screenshot he posted — I know my worth.

After the Romero fight they offered me the worst contract you could imagine — an insulting offer. Then Oscar tried to take the Rolly rematch from me and hand it to Raúl Curiel. I’ve been pushing for that rematch with Rolly, and now you want to give it to someone else?

That’s a slap in the face — and it keeps happening. No respect. No loyalty. It hurts. Every time they show their true colors. I don’t want to be part of a team like that, and that’s just the truth.

Why is he hating on the only fighter making him money? My fight with Gervonta Davis pulled in a hundred million dollars. Who else at Golden Boy is a star right now? They don’t have one. No disrespect to the other fighters — I respect them — but that’s a fact. When I was starting out, Canelo warned me — and I should have listened.

Oscar doesn’t believe in me or trust me. Big fighters lose too — but they come back, rebuild, get better. Remember how many times he lost and came back. He stayed ‘The Golden Boy,’ and I always rooted for him. That’s boxing.

Oscar doesn’t respect me. I don’t think he’s ever rated me as a fighter, but honestly, I don’t care. I’ve got one fight left on my contract with him — that’s it. If they can create a new star, great. I’m ready to move on,” Garcia said.

In May, Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) returned to the ring after a one-year suspension, losing a unanimous decision to Rolando Romero and hitting the canvas in round two.
