Promoter reveals when Moses Itauma could get a title shot

Frank Warren, head of Queensberry Promotions and promoter of British heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma, said that a victory in the upcoming fight against Jermaine Franklin would put his fighter on course for a world title shot by the end of 2026.

“We’ve got a really high-quality fight – Moses against Jermaine Franklin. You know, he (Franklin) has never been stopped before, and this is a tough fight for Moses. I think this is exactly the kind of bout that will allow Itauma to take a step forward. I hope he comes through it, and that it will put him in position to fight for a world title this year already.

People say you need to get rounds in. But we’re matching him with opponents against whom, in our opinion, he will get those rounds, and that’s exactly how it feels with Jermaine. As I said, he’s never been stopped. He went the full 12 rounds with AJ (Anthony Joshua), and that was four years ago. And that was a strong version of AJ four years ago.

Same with Dillian Whyte, and many people feel that he effectively took that fight – that he won it. This is a serious opponent. If Moses blows him out in one or two rounds, I don’t see any problem with that. In boxing you don’t get paid for overtime. If you land, it’s over. Full stop.

He’s capable of that. That’s exactly why he’s so exciting and why people believe in him.

Manchester is going to have a great show. We’ve got seven fights on the card. It’s another fantastic show, and it’s almost completely sold out.

I feel that if Moses comes through this fight, then, as I’ve already said, by the end of the year he’ll put himself in a position for a world title shot. He might even become the youngest Brit ever to win a world title,” Warren said.

The fight between Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) and Jermaine Franklin (24-2, 15 KOs) will take place on 24 January in Manchester, United Kingdom.
