Three-division world champion Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) has officially announced his retirement from professional boxing. The Ukrainian fighter made the following statement:
“In every athlete’s life, there comes a moment when he hangs up the gloves. For us, that day has arrived. First and foremost, I want to thank our Lord, Jesus Christ, for everything He has done for us — for leading a small, vain boy down His path and showing him that recognition, history, and legacy are not the true meaning of life.
I am grateful for every victory, every defeat — both in the ring and in life. I’m glad that by the end of my career, I’ve come to understand the direction a person should take to win. Not to win in the ring, but to defeat the old self — and, in the end, receive the true reward,” Lomachenko said.
In his final bout, the 37-year-old defeated George Kambosos to become the IBF lightweight champion.
