On April 29 in London, the first press conference took place ahead of the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois, with the title of undisputed heavyweight world champion at stake. The fight is set for July 19 at Wembley Stadium.
Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren believes the referee made a mistake in the first bout:
"What happened back then? Daniel lost the fight. That’s what happened. There was a very controversial moment with the low blow. I believe it was a legal shot.
There’s no doubt it hurt Alex. And there’s no doubt the referee gave him extra time. He wanted to continue the fight — and the referee gave him additional time.
The referee made a mistake. But Dubois can fix that on the 19th."
Dubois’ trainer Don Charles addressed Usyk — mentioning an "Oscar":
"You know, as a boxing trainer, I personally respect you a lot as a fighter. What you’ve achieved is amazing. But I’m disappointed that you could stoop so low to show the photos I’m seeing.
Why don’t you print out the frame of the shot that really shook you? The acting you showed that night… Have you heard of the Oscars? Of the Emmys? You should be awarded an Oscar for that performance.
You deceived the referee. You deceived us. You deceived the whole boxing world. I’ve always said it — and I still say it.
You’re very strong mentally — but now you’ve met someone stronger."
Usyk replied briefly, recalling the knockout:
"You’re right, I deserve an Oscar. You’re right. Listen, you should teach your fighter to land clean punches — but I won that fight with my right hand. Jab. Bam! That’s enough."
Dubois made a clear promise:
"Yeah, but that’s in the past. I have a chance to put things right and settle the debates. People are talking a lot of nonsense right now, but I can’t wait to put him to sleep."
