Teofimo Lopez Publicly Reveals Terms Offered for Matias Fight

WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez took to Twitter to disclose the terms he was offered for a fight against former world champion Subriel Matias.

"I'm going to get in trouble for this, but they did this to make me turn down my first PPV and to show that I can’t sell out big arenas. The fight was supposed to be against a Puerto Rican fighter—it should have happened in New York, not Las Vegas.

The boxing industry knows what happens if I don’t meet the bonus conditions.

– WBO junior welterweight title defense against Subriel Matias on PPV.

– March 15, T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.

– Guaranteed payment for Teofimo: $2,600,000.

– Bonus payment of $250,000 upon reaching 80,000 PPV buys in the U.S.

– 50% of all PPV revenue earned by the promoter after the first 100,000 PPV buys in the U.S.

– 50% of all ticket revenue exceeding $1,500,000 collected by the promoter," Lopez wrote.

Lopez's post quickly caught the attention of WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford, who responded:

"$2.6 million is crazy work when you're such a big star, as you claim to be. Now I see why you were acting like a fool," Crawford fired back.

Ultimately, Matias and Lopez never squared off. However, Teofimo is now in negotiations for a unification bout against Richardson Hitchins, with the deal reportedly close to being finalized.
