Shalom Explains Why Eubank vs. Canelo Fight Fell Through

Ben Shalom, the promoter of British boxer Chris Eubank Jr. (33-3, 24 KOs) and head of Boxxer, explained that negotiations for a fight between his client and undisputed super middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) fell apart.

"Canelo's promotional team couldn't offer a sum that Chris would consider acceptable for a fight of this magnitude. I believe the fight will happen, but not in September.

We discussed the possibility of holding the fight in the UK, but considering the event at Wembley Stadium during Riyadh Season on September 21 (the bout between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois – ed.), which we are also involved in, it doesn't make sense.

Of course, things can change, but right now Chris believes it's a big fight. And if it is indeed a big fight, the purse should reflect that," said Shalom.

Earlier in July, Eubank Jr. became a client of the promotional company Boxxer. He had been a free agent after ending his cooperation with Wasserman Boxing.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez last fought in May against Jaime Munguia (43-1, 34 KOs) and won by unanimous decision. The most likely opponent for Canelo is WBA mandatory challenger Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs). The potential fight could take place on September 14 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

Chris Eubank Jr. fought twice last year against Liam Smith (33-4-1, 20 KOs), trading technical knockouts.
