Shakur Stevenson Battling Hand Injury, Plans to Call Floyd Mayweather

WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson has revealed that he is still dealing with a lingering hand injury and plans to seek advice from Floyd Mayweather, who dealt with similar issues throughout his career.

I’m definitely going to call Floyd—probably when I get back and settle down a bit. But I will call him and ask: What did he do? What should I do? How do I preserve my career?

Because honestly, none of these guys are on my level. My defense, my punches, the way I make fighters miss—no one is on my level when it comes to boxing. But my biggest issue is my hands.

So I want to ask him, and also champions like Andre Ward, Terence Crawford, or anyone who has dealt with this: What should I do? How do I get better?

Stevenson first spoke about his hand problems after his fight with Edwin De Los Santos, a bout that drew criticism for its lack of action.

He then injured his hand again during sparring, forcing the cancellation of his scheduled fight with Joe Cordina.

Even in his most recent fight, where he scored a stoppage win over Josh Padley, Stevenson re-injured his hand once more.
