American welterweight boxer Ryan Garcia has announced that he successfully underwent hand surgery following his May 2 bout against Rolando Romero.
“I had surgery on my hand and did what needed to be done. I never used it as an excuse for the result of my fight.
The media will report on the surgery — I’m just grateful it was successful. Thank you to everyone for the love and support — to the community and all the people who’ve been with me throughout my career. I love you,” Garcia wrote on Twitter.
It was previously reported that Garcia injured his hand during training camp. According to sources, he received multiple cortisone injections ahead of the fight to manage the pain.
As a reminder, Garcia lost to Romero by unanimous decision on May 2, and was knocked down in the second round.
