It has been officially confirmed that Jean Pascal (37-7-1, 21 KOs), the 42-year-old Canadian former world champion, will face 36-year-old Polish contender Michał Cieślak (27-2, 21 KOs) for the vacant WBC interim cruiserweight title (limit: 90.7 kg).
The fight will take place on June 28 at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, Canada.
Cieślak was initially set to face Yamil Peralta for the interim title, but that bout fell through. The WBC then sanctioned this matchup, approving a fight between No. 5 ranked Cieślak and Pascal, who had not appeared in the organization’s rankings until he was listed at No. 10 in the updated May 12 WBC rankings.
The full WBC world title in the cruiserweight division is currently held by Badou Jack, who previously lost a split decision to Pascal in 2019.
In recent performances:
– Pascal knocked out Terry Osias in the 10th round in September.
– Cieślak scored a third-round TKO over Felix Valera the following month.
