On May 11 in San Diego, USA, WBO super featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete (40–2–1, 32 KOs) faced Charly Suarez (18–1, 10 KOs) of the Philippines in a bout contested at the 59 kg limit.
The fight was stopped after eight rounds. In Round 6, Navarrete suffered a cut above his left eye. After the seventh, the ringside doctor advised the referee to halt the bout. Judges' scorecards at the time read 78–75 and 77–76 (twice) in favor of Navarrete, who was declared the winner via technical unanimous decision (TD-U 8).
This was Navarrete’s second title defense since moving back to the division in December 2024, when he stopped Oscar Valdez.
For Suarez, this was his first world title opportunity. He entered the fight on a five-bout winning streak, with two decisions and three stoppages.
