Navarrete: “From the first moment, I knew it was a head clash”

WBO super featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete shared his thoughts following his technical decision win over Charly Suarez (18–1, 10 KOs) in San Diego.

I felt good. I felt strong. I felt complete. Unfortunately, the fight had to end this way because of the head clash. But while it lasted, I felt good.

From the first moment after the impact, I knew it was caused by a headbutt. My eyebrow was completely cut open, and I realized right away it was from a clash of heads.

First, we need to heal the cut. Then we’ll fine-tune a few things. We’ll take time to think it through calmly and decide whether to stay at super featherweight or try to move back up to lightweight,” said Navarrete.

The fight ended after Round 8 due to a cut Navarrete suffered above his left eye in Round 6. The ringside doctor advised the referee to stop the bout. The official decision: 78–75 and 77–76 twice in favor of Navarrete — TD-U 8.
