Moses Itauma: “A Fight with Usyk Is a No-Lose Situation”

20-year-old British heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma has shared his thoughts on a potential bout with the undisputed heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk.

— Regarding Usyk — people keep saying that if you add up all my rounds, I’ve only spent about an hour in the ring.

Is that my fault? That’s just part of how things go. You step in, and sometimes the fight ends early — how am I supposed to gain rounds that way? One of the main things my team and I are working on is getting more rounds of experience.

But the reason we’re ready to fight Usyk, even while still gaining experience, is because it’s a no-lose situation. If I go in and win, I become the heavyweight world champion. And if I lose — well, I’ll have lost to Usyk, the reigning champion, at 20 years old. So either way, I win.

On August 16, Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) stopped Dillian Whyte with a first-round technical knockout. He is scheduled to headline a card on December 13 at Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, UK, though his opponent has yet to be announced.

On July 19, Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) knocked out Daniel Dubois in the fifth round, becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion for the third time in his career.
