Mercado vs Montrel Bout Cancelled

The scheduled clash between Ernesto Mercado (17-0, 16 KOs) and Jonathan Montrel (19-3, 13 KOs) for the IBF North American super lightweight title has been officially cancelled.

Mercado reportedly sustained a minor injury during training camp. This marks the second time in seven months the American has had a fight cancelled — the previous incident occurred when his opponent failed to make weight.

The bout was set to take place on June 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York, as part of the undercard for the Richardson Hitchins vs George Kambosos main event.
