Elliott Amoakoh, manager of IBO Middleweight Champion Chris Eubank Jr, has shared details of the ongoing negotiations for the Briton’s next bout.
“I’ve spoken to Chris, presented several opponents to him, and the fight he wants next is Conor Benn. We’ll sit down with the guys from The Ring magazine and strike a deal if it makes sense.
To be honest, many champions are asking for unrealistic purses to fight Chris. In the Middleweight division, Chris is viewed as a money fight. So even if he wants to face champions, they’re demanding three or four times more than what they usually get.
They don’t have the kind of name Conor Benn has to generate the type of money a Eubank vs. Benn fight brings. So Chris is in a tricky spot — if we want a title fight, we’ll have to go after Canelo.
Is Eubank vs. Canelo realistic? One hundred percent. We hope Canelo beats Terence Crawford, we get through Conor Benn, and then we make that fight. That’s the plan being discussed right now. Turki (Alalshikh) promised us that.
If Chris Eubank Jr gets through this, Eubank vs. Canelo — let’s go. That’s what we want: beat Conor Benn and then fight Canelo,” said Amoakoh.
In April, Chris Eubank Jr defeated Conor Benn via unanimous decision.
The fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford for the undisputed Super Middleweight title is scheduled for September 13 in Las Vegas, USA.
