Fernando Beltran, promoter of Super Middleweight boxer Jaime Munguia (45-2, 35 KOs), has confirmed their presence in Salt Lake City, USA, for the opening and reanalysis of the B sample.
“We’re here and ready, as the VADA B sample has been officially opened in Utah. We hope this will clarify the situation,” said Beltran.
To recall, on May 3, Munguia defeated Bruno Surace by unanimous decision in their rematch. However, the A sample collected by VADA after the bout revealed an adverse analytical finding of testosterone metabolites of exogenous origin. Munguia had ten days to request a B sample analysis.
If the B sample also tests positive, Munguia could face a suspension from boxing, and the fight may be declared a no-contest.
Notably, Munguia began training with Eddy Reynoso, coach of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, shortly before the rematch with Surace. Other fighters under Reynoso’s guidance — Julio Cesar Martinez, Oscar Valdez, and Ryan Garcia — have also returned positive doping tests. In 2018, Canelo himself served a six-month suspension for a similar offense.
