Gervonta Davis Doesn’t Believe Lomachenko Feared Fighting Him

WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) has addressed the long-discussed but never finalized fight with IBF & IBO champion Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs), giving his take on why the Ukrainian has yet to step back into the ring.

"People ask me about fighting someone like Lomachenko, but right now, he’s got that ‘retirement vibe.’

They say he was scared, but I don’t think so. I just think he’s reached the point where it’s harder for him to get up for a fight.

He’s older now. He’s got kids. Everything is about the kids now. We still want to make money, but 80% of our efforts are for our children", said Gervonta.

The closest Davis and Lomachenko came to fighting was in 2024, when their teams engaged in serious negotiations, but the bout never materialized. Since then, Lomachenko hasn’t returned to the ring, though he currently holds an IBF medical exemption allowing him to retain his title.
