Warren on Allen–Makhmudov: “That Was Donkey Racing Level”

Frank Warren / DAZN

Head of Queensberry Promotions Frank Warren commented on the heavyweight bout organized by their rivals at Matchroom between David Allen and Arslanbek Makhmudov.

“I watched that fight. It looked like there were quite a few people there. I think Dave took a good beating. There are certain levels in this sport, and he earned his chance, but it is what it is. They’re not in the elite tier of the heavyweight division. That’s all. I don’t want to be disrespectful to Dave — good luck to him, and I’m glad he made some decent money.

But the heavyweight fights we’re putting on right now are world-class contests. And of course, the one happening on the 25th at the O2 — Joseph Parker vs. Fabio Wardley — that’s a truly top-level fight. That’s what a proper level looks like. Not donkey racing level,” Warren said.

David Allen (24-8-2, 19 KOs) lost to Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs) by unanimous decision with scores of 115–111, 116–110, and 117–109.

The Parker–Wardley bout will take place on October 25, with detailed statistics for the interim WBA Heavyweight title fight available via the link below.
