Former promoter of WBA, WBC and IBF Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, Alex Krassyuk, believes that leaving the WBO title vacant was the correct decision.
“You have to look at the WBO title situation in the progression of time. The mandatory challenger should have been appointed immediately after the fight with Dubois, but Oleksandr took a pause, citing injury.
The WBO gave the champion the necessary time to recover, and when that period expired, the question came up again: either defend it or vacate it.
That’s why I believe Oleksandr made the right choice — a fight with Wardley right now carries absolutely no meaning: neither sporting, nor media-wise, nor commercially,” Krassyuk said.
British fighter Fabio Wardley has been declared the full WBO champion.
