Golden Boy Promotions founder and CEO Oscar De La Hoya has shared his thoughts on the future of his fighter, American welterweight Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs).
“I’d like Ryan to take a year off — to get his mind right, find inner peace and comfort. He’s not losing anything. He’s got injuries that need healing, but more importantly, I think he needs to get his life in order. I’m pretty sure about that because I’ve been through it myself — when pressure is coming from every direction: family, people around you.
It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s important to know when to stop, take a deep breath, take a step back, and reflect — get everything in order. That’s just my opinion. I really hope he uses this opportunity and does take a year off,” De La Hoya said.
On May 2, Ryan Garcia lost to Rolando Romero by unanimous decision after being knocked down in the second round.
