David Allen on Potential Wilder Fight: “I Could Take Five Years Off”

British Heavyweight David Allen (24-7-2, 19 KOs) has expressed interest in facing former world champion Deontay Wilder (43-4-1, 42 KOs), saying a win in his next bout could secure that opportunity — and change his life financially.

Right now, I’m obsessed with just my next fight. I’m ready. I just want to fight in September or October at the Sheffield Arena. I need to win that fight because I think Wilder is waiting after that. It would be the biggest fight of my career. And you know what? The opponent in Sheffield will be serious — not a big name, but a real test. I just need to win — if I win, I gain financial independence for a generation. And that generation is mine.

That’s wealth to me. My kids will live great. I only need to win this next one. I’ve got nothing to complain about anymore. But this next fight — it’s everything. If I win, I could take five years off work. So I’m in a good place mentally. But this next one… it’s crucial. That’s where I am. I’m already back in the gym. I’m completely obsessed with the next fight.

I’m the kind of guy who could knock out a good fighter and then lose to a journeyman. I know that about myself. But right now — I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been,” Allen added.

On May 17, Allen knocked out Johnny Fisher in their rematch. Deontay Wilder, meanwhile, is scheduled to return on June 27 against Tyrrell Herndon. The American has lost four of his last five fights.
