Crawford Assesses His Chances Against Canelo

WBA Light-Middleweight title-holder Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KO) told Piers Morgan—in a joint interview with undisputed Super-Middleweight champion Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez (63-2-2, 39 KO) — that he is 70 % sure of victory on 13 September.

Piers Morgan: “I’ve interviewed many fighters, but you two are among the smartest and most self-assured. Yet on 13 September one of you will walk out the winner, the other the loser. All the hype will be over. Who wins?”

Crawford: “Me. Good thing you looked at me first.”

Morgan: “I gave you a chance to admit you might lose.”

Crawford: “No.”

Morgan: “One-hundred-percent certain?”

Crawford: “No one can be 100 % certain.”

Morgan: “So what percentage?”

Crawford: “Seventy.”

Morgan: “Two-thirds odds in your favour?”

Crawford: “Exactly. I always believe in myself. If you don’t, why should anyone else? People told me I’d never make it—that I had to leave Omaha to succeed. Faith and dedication got me here.”

Morgan: “What would beating Canelo—one of the all-time greats—mean to you?”

Crawford: “Everything.”

Morgan: “Biggest night of your life?”

Crawford: “It all comes down to that moment.”

Morgan: “Did you plan this? Dream about it, put his photo on the wall?”

Crawford: “Can’t say it was Canelo back then. I targeted Manny Pacquiao, then Errol Spence.”

Morgan: “And now—Canelo?”

Crawford: “Yes, now him.”

Morgan turns to Álvarez:

Morgan: “How sure are you of winning?”

Álvarez: “I’d say I have 30 %. He says 70; I say I have at least those 30.”

Morgan: “Pretty modest. I thought you’d say 100 %.”

Álvarez: “One percent is enough. I don’t need more. One percent—that’s all it takes.”

Morgan: “One percent is enough? Do you harbour even the slightest doubt?”

Álvarez: “Absolutely. What do you want me to say?”

Morgan: “Just be honest. Someone’s going to lose.”

Álvarez: “I’m going to win.”

Morgan: “You believe you’ll win?”

Álvarez: “One-hundred-percent. That’s the 100 % Terence didn’t claim.”

The showdown for the undisputed Super-Middleweight crown takes place 13 September in Las Vegas, USA, and will stream live on Netflix.
