Amir Khan Becomes a Promoter

Former super lightweight world champion Amir Khan has officially launched a new chapter in his boxing journey — this time as a promoter. After hanging up the gloves, the British star is stepping into the business side of the sport and will host his first international event this June in Ghana.

According to Khan, his aim isn’t just to stay involved in boxing — he’s determined to make a mark in the promotional world.

“I don’t think I’ll make any major mistakes, but I always prepare for the worst-case scenario. That’s why I see the Ghana show as a learning experience,” said Khan. “I love boxing — this is my way of staying in the game. I’ve seen it all as a fighter and I understand what it takes to build a great event.”

“Most importantly, I want to genuinely help young fighters. When you have a name like Oscar De La Hoya, doors open. I want to bring AK Promotions to that level. And I’ve got a solid team behind me. I want to show broadcasters that we can deliver exciting events — and once we do, the rest will follow.”

Khan also reflected on his experiences with the major names in boxing promotion:

“Frank Warren was brilliant at what he did. I had 19 fights with him — all of them great, and I only lost one. He was a top matchmaker and producer. I still respect him and see him from time to time. Actually, I’ve kept good relationships with all the promoters I worked with.”

“And if you think about it, I made millions for these people — for Eddie Hearn, Frank, Golden Boy, Bob Arum, Ben Shalom. These were big fights. Now I want to see if they’ll return that loyalty. I’m a promoter now — hopefully they’ll support me in this new role. I’m still learning.”

Khan is setting his sights high:

“I want to be among the top players in the promotion world. I want to take a young fighter and help guide him all the way to a world title. If I commit to something, I give it everything I’ve got. I’ll do whatever it takes to reach the top. If that means winning titles, unifying, becoming undisputed — that’s the goal. That’s just who I am: if I’m in, I’m in to win.”
