Deontay Wilder's trainer, Malik Scott, has confirmed that a fight between the former heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg) and Francis Ngannou is a realistic possibility.
"All the names you just mentioned have had certain negotiations regarding a fight with Deontay.
These fights have always been in the plans but never materialized. It’s a blessing that you can suffer two losses, but your name and reputation are still so big that you're being considered at the highest level.
Deontay can still have great fights, make a lot of money, and solidify his legacy. He’s very blessed. Right now, Ngannou is focused on his PFL fight against Ferreira, which is a big, significant battle.
We’ll see how he handles that, and then we’ll see how Deontay feels when he returns to training camp. But all these fights are real, especially with Saudi Arabia’s investment in boxing.
All heavyweight fights are competitive right now. Deontay has always looked to be compensated for the risks he takes in the ring," Scott said.
Both Wilder and Ngannou lost their previous fights: Wilder was stopped by Zhilei Zhang via 5th-round TKO, and Ngannou was knocked out by Anthony Joshua in the 2nd round. Ngannou’s next fight will be in the PFL, under MMA rules.
