WBC Upholds Bohachuk’s Appeal: What It Means

The World Boxing Council (WBC) has upheld the appeal of Tom Loeffler, promoter of Ukrainian super welterweight Serhii Bohachuk (26-2, 24 KOs).

Loeffler contested the fact that his fighter was ranked second in the updated ratings, while Jaron Ennis, who has never fought in the super welterweight division and is scheduled to take part in an WBA eliminator, was placed at number one.

The WBC issued the following statement:

“While the WBC followed its own rules and current regulatory requirements, we inform you that the WBC Appeals Committee, in addition to the WBC Ratings Committee itself, reviewed this appeal and granted the request, ordering Mr. Bohachuk restored to the number one position.”

The current WBC world champion in the division is Sebastian Fundora, with Vergil Ortiz holding the interim title.
