Oleksandr Usyk is a Ukrainian professional boxer who competes in the heavyweight division. He was born on January 17, 1987, in Simferopol, Ukraine (Crimea).
Biography:
Oleksandr began boxing at age 15 after spending several years in youth football. His first coach was Serhiy Lapin.
Career:
Usyk is an Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine and the 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the 91 kg category. As an amateur, he fought 350 bouts and won 335.
He turned pro in 2013, signing a contract with K2 Promotions, and later launched his own company, Usyk17 Promotions.
In 2018, he became the undisputed cruiserweight champion by unifying the WBA Super, WBC, WBO, and IBF titles after defeating Murat Gassiev. He later made a successful move to the heavyweight division.
In 2021, Usyk claimed the WBA Super, WBO, IBF, and IBO titles by defeating Anthony Joshua and confirmed his dominance in the 2022 rematch.
In May 2024, Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury to become the first undisputed world heavyweight champion since 1999.
